Reagan Republican Revolution

Hello and welcome to the Reagan Republican blog.

I am a 39 year old registered Republican who has become increasingly disillusioned by the way I feel my party has been hijacked by the neo  conservative movement, Corporate Special Interests and the army of fanatical religious right wing lobbyists infesting Washington.

Lets start with what I believe are the core values of the Republican Party, or at least the party I believe in and supported for so many years. When I was growing up my father taught me that the Republican party stood for three things above all. The first was small and noninvasive government. This idea is critical to me as it represents a government that tries to interfere as little as possible with the lives of it’s citizens. The second key value was the idea of fiscal responsibility and controls on spending. One of the most sacred tenets of the Republican ideal, yet it is one that has become the most often ignored as government spending has skyrocketed. The final key I was taught as a child was the idea that Republicans stand for strong defense of our country and our freedoms. To me this means much more than buying a few extra F-22 fighters or B-2 Stealth Bombers. To me this means protecting the freedoms of the constitution, all of them, from all enemies foreign and domestic.

I swore that oath when I joined the US Army 20 years ago, and I still believe in it today. A real Republican, in my view can not support anything which would endanger the principles of the Constitution.

In my view, the current administration has violated all three of these key pillars of what I believed it means to be a Republican. I plan to discuss why what I believe the current Bush administration has done that has broken these ideals, and suggest ways that we can re take our party and our government. The party of Liberty and Freedom has become the party of Oppression and Concentration of Power, and I can not remain silent and watch as this occurs.
